Privacy agreement
Timefolio is designed local-first. This page explains what the extension reads, how it creates a device identity, and when browsing data may sync.

Device information
What we read
We parse basic browser, operating-system, and device information from the userAgent with ua-parser-js. We do not read contacts, files, passwords, or unrelated sensitive information.
Why we use it
Device information identifies the current client, labels connected devices, and helps you manage browsers associated with your account.
Device fingerprint
How it is created
Timefolio uses the open-source FingerprintJS library inside the extension to create a stable visitorId as the default local identity.
Identity boundary
A fingerprint identifies a client; it is not a password or strong authentication credential. It may change after browser resets, upgrades, or device changes. Email sign-in associates the current fingerprint with an account client.
The website reads this value only after an installed extension responds. The bridge accepts requests only from explicitly configured website origins.
Browsing records
What is recorded
Records may include URL, title, favicon, start and end time, and active foreground duration.
How time is counted
The extension combines page-open, background, foreground, page-close, and window-close events. A session counts only visible foreground time; reopening creates a new record.
Resource use
Only the affected local record changes when an event occurs. The extension does not continuously write unchanged data.
Offline records and sync
Local storage
Sessions, site statistics, and collections are written to browser IndexDB first. Tracking and collecting continue while signed out or offline.
Account sync
After email sign-in, selected data can be sent to the service for account storage and connected-device support. Pending work stays local after authentication failures.
Offline mode
You can enable offline mode in extension settings to prevent remote sync. Local data may be lost after browser reset, extension removal, or device replacement.
You can always choose to use Timefolio only on this device.
