From installation to your first review.
This guide covers only features available in the current browser extension. Browsing-time tracking works without an account; collections, folders, and account sync require sign-in.
- Browsers
- Chrome / Edge
- Tracked pages
- Visible foreground http/https pages
- Collectable content
- Pages / images / selected text
Install and get started
Installing from the Chrome Web Store is recommended. If the store is unreachable, download the CRX or ZIP package and load it manually. Open the extension once after installation.
- 01
Install the extension
Click “Add to Chrome” on the Chrome Web Store listing (recommended). If the store is unreachable, drag in the CRX, or unzip the ZIP and choose “Load unpacked”.
- 02
Pin the extension
Pin Timefolio to the browser toolbar for quick access to statistics, collections, and settings.
- 03
Finish initialization
Opening the extension once creates a local identity for this browser. Refresh the website afterward to try connecting it.
Review browsing records
The extension tracks visible foreground time on regular web pages automatically—there is no start or stop button.
- 01
Start timing
Open an http/https page in the focused window and keep its tab active and the page visible.
- 02
Pause and finish
Switching tabs, losing window focus, or hiding the page pauses timing. A URL change, closed tab, or non-web address ends the session.
- 03
Review results
Open “Statistics” in the popup to see sites, record count, and accumulated time, or review recent records in the new tab.
- 04
Exclude a site
Use the page context menu or “Settings → Browsing whitelist” to add a domain or exact URL, with an option to remove matching history.
Whitelisted pages do not create new browsing records.
Collect web content
Collections currently require sign-in so they can be saved and synced to your account.
- 01
Sign in first
Use an email verification code from the website header, extension popup, or collection prompt.
- 02
Choose what to collect
Open the context menu on a page, image, or selected text and choose the matching collection action.
- 03
Organize it
Confirm the content, choose or create a folder, and add a rich-text or Markdown note in the collection dialog.
- 04
Review collections
Open Collections in the popup, new tab, or collection manager to review and organize saved items.
Create a QR code
Turn the current page, selected text, or an image address into a QR code without saving it first.
- 01
Open the context menu
Right-click the page, a text selection, or an image.
- 02
Choose a QR action
Choose the action for a page link, selected text, or image address.
- 03
Scan and continue
The QR code appears in a dialog on the current page, ready to scan from a phone.
Account, sync, and preferences
Signing in connects the local browser identity to your account and makes closed records and collections eligible for sync.
- 01
Manage sync
Settings shows the browsing-record sync control, pending/failed counts, and a “Sync now” action.
- 02
Adjust the interface
Change language and light/dark theme, or show and hide the collection entry and on-page timer.
- 03
Keep recording locally
While signed out or temporarily offline, browsing records continue to be written to the local browser database first.
Configure new tab search
Search is off by default. It appears on the new tab only after a signed-in user selects search engines and explicitly enables it.
- 01
Sign in
Sign in from the extension or website first. Signing out immediately hides the search box on the new tab.
- 02
Choose search engines
Open “Settings → New tab search” and select one or more engines you want to use.
- 03
Enable the search box
After selecting at least one engine, turn on “Show search box,” then open or refresh the new tab.
- 04
Run a search
Choose an engine and enter a query on the new tab. The query goes directly to that engine; Timefolio does not receive the search results.
Removing every selected engine automatically disables the search box. Each provider’s privacy policy and terms apply to searches.
Troubleshooting
Start with these three checks when something does not behave as expected.
- 01
No browsing record appears
Confirm this is a regular http/https page, the window and tab are in the foreground, and the site is not whitelisted.
- 02
Collection asks you to sign in
This is expected in the current version. Complete email-code sign-in and try the collection action again.
- 03
The website cannot detect the extension
Confirm the extension is enabled and has been opened once, then refresh the website. Development origins must also be included in the extension allowlist.
